Electrical Code courses are offered by a few school districts and colleges throughout the province. They are usually offered about three times a year (January, April and September). Most courses are 50 hours long. The minimum course length recommended by BCSA is 45 hours.

To find out the time and location of courses offered, please check with your local school district (board) or various community colleges.

Completion of a current edition of the electrical code is mandatory before application of FSR examination.  The course instructor will followed the guidelines used by BCSA and will issue a “Completion Letter” to each participant when the course requirement is fulfil. Course contents cover most if not all of the electrical code sections. In addition, the following documents and regulations also will be covered:

     1.      Safety Standard Act;

2.      Safety Standard General Regulation;

3.      Electrical Safety Regulation;

4.      Electrical Fees Regulation;

5.      Electrical Directives;

6.      Electrical Information Bulletins

7.      BC Amendments

8.      Electrical Safety Orders

·      Independent Contractors & Business Association (ICBA) at Lougheed & Boundary, Burnaby.

    -          Tuesday/Thursday – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 3h each evening

·      Burnaby School Districts-classes held at Moscrop Secondary School at Moscrop & Willingdon,

-          Monday/Wednesday- 7.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. 2½ h each evening

·      Surrey/Langley Areas-Douglas College, Surrey at King George Highway.

-          Tuesday/Thursday- 6.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. 2½ h each evening.

Burnaby Course

One of the popular code courses in the lower mainland is offered by: 

Course delivered by a knowledgeable instructor who is recognized by the BC Safety Authority (BCSA).  Course topics cover all sections of the electrical code as well as all relevant material dealing with examination criteria. Completion of this course meets one of the eligibility requirements for writing a FSR Class A, B, or C,  examination. Highly recommended for Electricians, 3rd & 4th year Apprentices, Technologists & Technicians, and Electrical Contractors.

Surrey / Langley  Course

 

This 50 hour course is based on the New BC Electrical Code 2012 (22st Edition) and includes the changes to the CSA 2012 Code. The course is designed for Electricians, Apprentices, Technologists, Technicians and Electrical Contractors planning to upgrade their knowledge of the Code. This course is also for those planning to write the Field Safety Representative (FSR) A, B, or C Exam.

Instruction covers all sections of the Code, Amendments, Directives, Bulletins, Acts and Regulations. A certificate will be issued upon successful completion. Course and instructor are recognized by BC Safety Authority (BCSA)

Textbooks required: 22 Edition (2012 Code) with Act & Regulations. (Code Book and Publications may be ordered first session).

 ICBA Course

The ICBA Electrical Code course is a comprehensive course comprising 50 hours of code instruction.

This course is ideal for electricians and electrical contractors who need to upgrade their code knowledge.

In addition to covering all sections of the electrical code, the course will examine the following: 

·         Safety Standards Act

·         BC Amendments

·         BC Directives 

·         Information Bulletins
  •  Electrical Safety Regulation
  •  Safety Standards General Regulation

There will also be an opportunity for participants to discuss a variety of code related problems.
